Local Restaurant Group Holds Job Fair

When a valley company offers jobs, there is no shortage of people hoping to get hired.

This was the case as Kaiser Restaurant Group held a two-day job fair at Jackalope Ranch in Indio.

Optimistic job seekers filled out applications and interviewed on the spot.

“Every day is a new day. You have to be hopeful that this might be the day,” said Palm Desert resident Patricia Fewings, who recently lost her job.

The Kaiser Group put the job fair together to fill positions at The Chop House in Palm Desert, Hog’s Breath Inn in La Quinta and Jackalope Ranch.

Management says it is looking to fill 50 to 60 positions and will likely get 300 to 400 applications. Of those, only about 20 to 25 qualified hires will be made.

“We’re seeing a much more wider variety of people filling out applications — not just a restaurant background. So it’s pretty evident people are struggling out there,” said David Potesta, general manager at Jackalope Ranch.

Many of those people applying for positions are struggling. But giving up hope — is not on the resume.

“I have to eat. I have to dress myself. I have to pay bills. It gets harder and harder every day. But we have to not give up and search for jobs,” said Indio resident Delfina Romo.

Management says another job fair is likely at the end of summer.
