Sale Of Palm Desert Home Marks Possible Change In Market

A home located in The Canyons at Bighorn in Palm Desert just sold with a closing price of $9.75 million, signaling there may be an end soon in the region’s wobbly real estate market.

Spokeswoman Julia Countryman said the 9,798-square-foot home sits on a 2.25-acre lot and was designed by Guy Dreier, whose award-winning designs are known for merging design with environment.

?Each home design is a study in sculptural shapes and organic warm spaces that our clients don?t want to leave,? said designer Guy Dreier.

Selling agent Doug Balog, of KW Luxury Homes by Keller Williams on El Paseo, said the design of the home was signature.

“The buyers were very impressed with the quality of construction, provided by Stoker Construction, one of the premier builders in the Coachella Valley,” added Blalog.

Bighorn Country Club, which includes The Canyons at Bighorn, has weathered the nation’s economic downturn and continues to thrive, said Marketing Director Theresa Maggio.

There have been nine mufti-million dollar home closings in Bighorn since 2008. One home sold for $11 million in 2009, she said.

While all of these sales rank well within the upper-tier price range, they’re still overshadowed by the former Blixseth estate known as Porcupine Creek. With a private golf course, a primary residence and four additional guest homes, Porcupine Creek claims first place overall in the region with a $42.9 million sale to Oracle co-founder and CEO Larry Ellison earlier this year.

Who purchased the most current home sold in Bighorn was kept secret. Countryman would only reveal where the family was moving from and their line of work.

“The fortunate buyers of this magnificent estate are entrepreneurs from western Canada who have stakes in enterprises that range from philanthropic endeavors to providing investment capital in automotive and aircraft ventures,” she said.
