Clothing Manufacturer Opens In Thousand Palms

If all goes to plan the opening of the new headquarters of Tala Enterprise in Thousand Palms will be a boon for the local job market.

Owner Liat Tala hopes to have 400 people on her payroll in four years. At this point, she has hired 30 employees to produce a women’s line of clothing.

Tala is no novice to the garment business. She had been producing her Kentucky Denim line in China, but after three years decided to temporarily discontinue the line and leave China for this new venture. It made economic sense.

“One of the reasons was the price of labor was going up. Fuel costs for transporting the goods was increasing as well and we wanted to have better quality control over the garments we produced,” said Tala.

By moving to Thousand Palms, Tala Enterprise is able to take advantage of Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone tax breaks.

When the operation gets up to full speed, workers will be producing close to 40,000 pieces of clothing a month.
