Police Search For Driver In Coachella Hit-And-Run

A search was continuing today for a motorist who struck and killed a 50-year-old pedestrian at a Coachella intersection.

The collision occurred around 5:40 p.m. Monday on Harrison Street, just north of Avenue 50, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim, a Coachella man whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, was apparently crossing the street when he was hit by the driver of a light-colored sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, said sheriff’s Cpl. Don Olson.

“The vehicle sustained damage to the front headlights as a result of the collision,” Olson said. “The vehicle may also have moderate damage to the hood and grill.”

He said the suspect fled north on Grapefruit Boulevard immediately after the collision.

The victim was rushed to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, where he succumbed to his injuries less than two hours later.

Anyone with information was urged to call the sheriff’s office in Indio at (760) 836-3215.
