Record Warm Temperatures Blanket Southern Calif.
Temperatures at Palm Springs International Airport reached 81 degrees on Monday, one degree shy of landing it in the meteorological record books.
A high-pressure ridge is bringing record temperatures to many areas of Southern California, and the toasty weather will continue for at least a few more days, according to the National Weather Service.
Much of the Inland Empire saw temperatures exceeding Palm Springs’ on Monday with some, like San Bernardino, reaching 84 degrees.
News Channel 3’s Chief Meteorologist Ginger Jeffries said the high for Wednesday could hit 84 degrees at the airport, which she called “chamber of commerce weather.”
The warm weather couldn’t come at a better time for city leaders and organizers of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which begins Thursday.
Filmmakers, directors and others associated with the motion pictures and hundreds of movie fans are expected to travel to the city to take part, and warm weather has the potential for drawing even more.
Cooler air may move in from the east on Thursday, though, dropping the temperature 5 to 10 degrees.
