19 Year Old Arrested In Connection With Mecca Stabbing
A 19-year-old Mecca man was arrested today on suspicion of a non-fatal New Year’s Eve stabbing, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Angel Martin Torres was taken into custody about 6:15 a.m. in the 91400 block of Third Street in Mecca by deputies from the Southern Coachella Valley Communities Services District Team and members of the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force.
He is accused in a stabbing that took place around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 91000 block of Avenue 66 in Mecca. Sheriff’s spokesman Angel Ramos said he didn’t have any information about the alleged victim or the circumstances of the crime.
Torres was booked into the county jail in Indio on suspicion of attempted murde, with bail set at $1 million, according to jail records. He was expected to be arraigned Friday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
