Valley On The Verge Of Finding Out About New Desert Event

The hotel biz can sometimes be a cut throat business, many of them working against each other to keep the guests from going to the competitive resorts. However, now eight of Palm Springs’ biggest and most distinctive hotels have come together to form PS Resorts. Their goal is to create new events so they all benefit.

“It’s something new it’s something that hasn’t been done. We do have a lot of events in ps but they happen every year. We haven’t brought a new event in town for many years,” Palm Mountain Resort General Manager Tim Ellis said.

Now that’s changing with help from eight ambitious hotels: The Ace, Colony Palms, the Hilton, the Hyatt, Marquis Villas, the Parker, the Viceroy, and Palm Mountain Resort.

Their first project is an event they are very tight-lipped about.

They say it will be sometime in September, and it’ll be “big.”

“When you hear the name Mardi Gras what do you think of? New Orleans. So, when we name this event, we don’t have a firm name for it yet, but we want people to think “oh that’s that event in Palm Springs,” Ellis said.

The group says the events will boost tourism during a time before season when many hotels are not at full capacity.

“Bottom line, we want to fill our hotel rooms. It’s important to do that because it drives people into retail and restaurants and other things to do on Palm springs.

When they hear about this hyped up event in the works, people can’t hide their excitement.

“It’s going to be great. I know it is, and every year it’s going to be better and better.”

“I think it’s great to have something big in palm springs.”

They can’t help but be a bit curious, too.

“I want to know right now….so what is it?”

More information about the event will be released at the city council meeting Wednesday night.
