Strong Winds Expected In Palm Springs Area

Strong winds of up to 40 mph were expected in the Coachella Valley later today, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS issued a high-wind warning for the area, which is in effect from 8 p.m. today until 4 p.m. Sunday.

A high-wind warning means a hazardous high wind is expected, and the NWS warned that driving can be difficult at times in windy areas, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Areas of northeast winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph, were forecast to continue Sunday night into Monday, the NWS said.

“It’s going to be windy, but I don’t think it’s a damaging wind gust,” said senior meteorologist Mike Pigott.

A cooling trend in Riverside County was forecast this weekend. The high temperatures in Palm Springs and Indio were expected to be about 73 today and Sunday, according to the NWS.
