Reward Increased In Search For Iggy Pop Drummer’s Killer
The former wife of Iggy Pop drummer Alexander Kirst offered a $17,000 reward to find the driver of an SUV that fatally struck Kirst a year ago, a police lieutenant said today.
Kirst, 47, was struck by a white 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon while he crossed the street near Date Palm and Gerald Ford drives around 11:45 p.m. Jan. 13, 2011, Cathedral City police Lt. Charles Robinson said.
Surveillance video indicated the vehicle sustained front-end damage, from surveillance footage, Robinson said.
Kirst, who also drummed for The Nymphs, was going to a store to buy a pack of cigarettes when he was struck, according to media reports at the time. Born in Canada, Kirst had dual citizenship and was living in Cathedral City to be near a friend.
“The Cathedral City Police Department Traffic Division is still seeking the public’s assistance in solving this crime,” Robinson said.
Kirst’s family, led by Tracy Kirst, has offered a $17,000 cash reward “to help bring closure to this case, and bring the person responsible for his death to justice,” the lieutenant said.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run was asked to call investigator Marc Robles at (760) 202-2416.
