Winds Cancel Play At Humana Challenge, Fans Evacuated

High winds ripping through the Coachella Valley Saturday caused mass damage.

Down in the La Quinta cove organizers for the Humana Challenge suspended play and evacuated fans as a precaution.

Officials released this statement on the suspension:

“Due to extensive damage at all three golf courses in the Humana Challenge rotation (in particular La Quinta Country Club), play has been suspended for the day and will resume at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

“In order to attempt to complete the scheduled professional competition of 72 holes by Sunday evening, the pro-am section of the competition is now final, reverting to three separate competitions of 36 holes each: i.e.: La Quinta/Nicklaus, La Quinta/Palmer, Nicklaus/Palmer.

“Professionals will resume Round 3 in pairs at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. Approximate tee times for Round 4 are 10 a.m. to noon off both the first and tenth tees.”
