Coachella Valley Braces For Another Storm

Just as Palm Springs and several other Coachella Valley cities are picking up from the wind storm that clobbered the area over the weekend, a pacific low-pressure system is moving into the area, bringing the potential for more wind.

Forecasters expect the system to move into California Monday, bringing strong gusty west winds to the mountains and deserts and light to moderate precipitation to the coast, valleys, and mountains.

The Inland Empire could see one-quarter to one-half inch of rain, NWS forecasters said. The Coachella Valley and Palm Springs would be shielded from much of the rain, with a forecast of about one-tenth of an inch.

The snow level will lower to the 5,500-to-6,000-foot level, with the heaviest snowfall predicted to hit the San Bernardino County mountains. Some areas could see 10 inches of fresh powder.

Strong gusty westerly winds are also expected in the mountains and deserts Monday and Monday night, with gusts of 65 mph possible.

Forecasters were quick to point out this is not quite as strong as the damaging winds on Saturday, but they still could result in some power outages, damage to trees and difficult driving conditions.

Areas of blowing dust could reduce visibility locally to near zero in the desert.

As this low pressure system moves east, the winds behind the storm could create gusts of 60 mph or more from late morning Tuesday through mid-day Wednesday.
