SoCal Mayors Urge State To Pay For Wind Damage
Mayors of seven Southern California cities are asking Gov. Jerry Brown for state funding that would help cover the costs of damage from last year’s devastating windstorm.
In a letter drafted Friday, the mayors estimate emergency response and cleanup from the Nov. 31 storm has so far cost at least $40 million. They urge Brown to authorize payments under the California Disaster Assistance Act.
The damage does not qualify for federal disaster reimbursements.
The letter was written by Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and signed by the mayors of Arcadia, La Canada Flintridge, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena and Temple City.
The storm unleashed winds approaching 100 mph that toppled countless trees, damaged homes and left more than 643,000 households and businesses in the region without power, some for days.
