Recent emails about cellphone numbers going public are false

If you’re one of many people who’ve recently gotten an email warning your cellphone number is about to go public, don’t worry. According to the Federal Trade Commission the email is mostly false.

If you’ve added your number to the National Do Not Call registry you don’t have to worry about a flood of calls from telemarketers at any time. The FTC also warns that scammers have recently made calls claiming to represent the Do Not Call registry. These are not legitimate calls, and you should not give your number to these callers.

To add your phone number to the Do Not Call registry, call 888-382-1222 from the number you wish to register. You can also visit www.donotcall.gov
