DHS Police Need Help Finding Sex Offender

For more than a year, Desert Hot Springs police have been looking for a man they said has been sexually assaulting women.

On Monday, police released a composite sketch of the attacker using a decription from a recent victim.

Police describe the attacker as either a white or Hispanic man, 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 to 180 pounds and unshaven.

According to police, between December 2010 and February of this year, he has attacked and groped as many as 16 women as they were walking along a two- or three-mile stretch of Hacienda Avenue between Maui Way and Hacienda Heights Drive.

“We have a pretty good M.O. of the subject and what he’s doing,” said Detective Jim Henson. “He’s basically coming up behind the victim. Most of the victims believe he’s a jogger asking for information. Once he comes up from behind the individual, he then sexually assaults them.”

If you have any information regarding the attacks or recognize the man police described, you’re urged to contact Henson at 760-329-6411, ext. 339, or call Valley Crimestoppers at 760-341-STOP. You can remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward.
