La Quinta Arts Festival Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The La Quinta Arts Festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary starting today.

The festival, which goes through Sunday, will feature 230 contemporary artists from 30 states and Canada exhibiting their work in 11 categories at the La Quinta Civic Center. The event is ranked the No. 2 fine art festival in the country, according to organizers. There will be live entertainment, food from local restaurants, and beer and wine.

Glass sculptor Randy Strong is the featured artist. He is a leader in the American Studio Art Glass Movement, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To commemorate the dual milestones, the La Quinta Arts Foundation and the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass are participating in more than 160 glass demonstrations, lectures and exhibitions in venues across the country this year. Strong will give a special presentation along with his four-day festival exhibit.

Strong’s free public lecture, “A Life Lived at 2,300 Degrees,” is Friday at 6 p.m. at Embassy Suites, 50777 Santa Rosa Plaza. Reservations are needed and can be made by calling (760) 564-1244, ext. 103.

Proceeds from the La Quinta Arts Festival have supported college scholarship awards totaling $1 million to visual art majors.

Daily festival tickets are $12; a multi-day pass is $15. Children under 12 are free. For information or tickets, contact the festival at (760) 564-1244 or go to www.lqaf.com.
