Defense Dept. To Reduce Military Flights At Palm Springs Int’l Airport
The Department of Defense will reduce military training flights at Palm Springs International Airport next month, according to Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs..
Beginning April 2, the 3rd Marine Air Wing will suspend training activity out of Palm Springs, said a spokesperson at Mary Bono Mack’s office in Washington.
Palm Springs residents had began complaining about the increased noise from fighter jets late last year, and a study presented by the city showed a drastic increase in the number of military jet flights from 2010 to 2011.
A report released along with the statement shows the increase in flights was due to Navy pilots, who were forced to finish their training in the El Centro area.
