Palm Springs police are investigating an accident that killed a motorcyclist and injured another driver Saturday night.

According to police Sgt. Kyle Stjerne, the accident was reported around 10:32 p.m. at North Indian Canyon and Tacheva Saturday night.

Arriving officers discovered the motorcyclist, a 48 year old man, had suffered extensive injuries. He later died on the scene, according to police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was driving his 2003 Harley Davidson, heading northbound on North Indian Canyon Drive. The male driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche made a left turn in front of him, according to Sgt. Mike Kovaleff.

Police shut down North Indian Canyon for nearly seven hours to investigate the crash. It reopened around 3:22 a.m. Sunday.
