Police dog captures metal thief suspect

Sheriff deputies think they captured a man who they say is responsible for a rash of metal thefts in the East Valley.

Thursday around 7:30pm deputies from the Southern Coachella Valley Communities Services District Team were doing a follow up investigation on the 87-000 block of Center Street in Thermal.

The suspect, 38 year old Francisco Duenas III, attempted to evade the officers by driving into an apartment complex. Deputies say children were playing in the area and he put their lives in danger while trying to escape.

Duenas ditched his car but was later captured on foot by “Ringo” a police canine officer. Duenas was booked at the Indio Jail for felony evading, burglary, and resisting arrest.
