College Of The Desert’s new president from S.F. Bay Area

In a Friday morning announcement, trustees of College of the Desert announced the appointment of Dr. Joel Kinnamon as the new Superintendent and President of the college.

Kinnamon will take the reigns from retiring president Jerry Patton on July 9, 2012, according to details released shortly after the announcement was made.

Kinnamon currently serves as the Chancellor of Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, which oversees Chabot College in Hayward and Las Positas Community College in Livermore, both of which are located in the eastern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area.

He also worked for community colleges in Oklahoma.

“It is an honor to be selected by the Board to lead College of the Desert, a leader in higher education in the region and the state,” said Kinnamon. “I look forward to working with the Board, faculty, staff and community to build upon the good work that has already been done and to continue COD’s record of student success and community partnerships.”

Kinnamon received his doctorate in higher education administration from Nova Southeastern University, his master’s degree with honors in business administration from Oklahoma City University, and his bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics from Oklahoma State University.
