Bike safety event prepares kids for summer

School is almost over for valley kids, meaning we’ll be seeing more and more of them playing outside and riding bikes.

In honor of Palm Springs Bike Month, the city put on its first ever “Bike Rodeo”, teaching not just the health benefits of bike riding, but bike safety as well.

People brought in their bikes to get checked and got free helmets as well.

Palm Springs Cyclery employees and Palm Springs police officers helped show people the ins-and-outs of bike safety.

“(We) give them a little check over on their bike, make sure their bike is safe and wheels aren’t falling off,and the nuts and bolts are there,” Palm Springs Cyclery employee Brett Stevens said.

Peoplecan still bringtheir bike into the Palm Springs Police Department Monday through Thursday from nine to five to get it registered and checked for a one dollar fee.
