All westbound lanes of I-10 were being diverted off of the freeway and back on again using the off and on ramps at Jefferson Street Monday morning.

California Highway Patrol officer, Joe Zagorski said motorists should access the Westbound I-10 from Washington Street or Cook Street to avoid the back up.

It is not clear how long the closure would remain in effect. UPDATE: Closure continued as of 9 a.m.

Indio Police department spokesman Ben Guitron said California Highway Patrol officers responded to the eastbound side of Interstate 10 under the Jefferson Street Bridge, at just before 5:00 a.m. Monday morning.

That’s where a driver reportedly hit the center divide.

The two CHP officers were then involved in a shooting with a person under the bridge who may have been that driver.

The officers were not hurt. The driver was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.
