Palm Springs Aerial Tramway reopens

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway reopened this morning after damaged phone lines prompted the operator to close it Sunday.

The tram was closed Monday so crews could fix the downed lines.

The tram was operating normally Tuesday, and the lines were repaired.

The first tram car was scheduled to go up at 10 a.m., tram spokeswoman Lena Zimmerschied said. It was unclear how the lines fell, or if the downed lines were connected to an outage that occurred Monday morning when a vehicle struck a power pole near Yorba Road east of Palm Canyon Drive.

That outage affected 3,185customers, and most had their power back in a few minutes, according to Southern California Edison.
