Marilyn Monroe statue unveiled in Palm Springs
Fifty years after her death, Marilyn Monroe still makes statements.
On Thursday, Palm Springs city leaders unveiled the 26 ft. tall statue officially welcoming her to her home — at least for the next year.
“It’s where she belongs. Where else would she be?” one “Forever Marilyn” fan said.
Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, and thousands others gathered on Tahquitz Canyon Road and Palm Canyon Drive as the rather large blonde bombshell made her official desert debut.
Some came to the valley just to see the leggy lady.
“We got to Phoenix last night and she told us about the unveiling in Palm Springs, so we came down here to see it,” Kenneth Mulac said.
On this day of celebrating the brazen babe, people reminisced about what made Marilyn “Marilyn.”
They used words such as “unique”, “fascinating”, and “one-of-a-kind.”
While men may have admired her looks, women say the starlet had a lot of dimension.
“Women like her because they can identify with her because she had emotions, she was vulnerable but talented. She was just like us,” ‘Forever Marilyn’ fan Angeie Whitney said.
