Human bones found in desert near U.S. Mexico border

Authorities say two human arm bones havebeen found in the Southern California desert near the U.S.-Mexicoborder.

Sgt. Thomas Garcia of the Imperial County Sheriff-Coroner Officesaid Tuesday the remains would be examined by a forensicanthropologist.

He says the bones were found Saturday and reported by the Bureauof Land Management. Garcia says they are human, but there is no wayto know yet the age or gender of the person.

Garcia says a large number of undocumented immigrants die in thearea each year because of extreme weather and terrain.

No one is searching for additional remains, but Garcia says asearch will likely be launched.
