Prep Baseball: Aztecs return to championship, Conquerors season ends

The fairytale season came to an end for the Desert Christian Academy Conquerors. In their first CIF semifinal appearance ever, DCA fell 9-8 in the bottom of the seventh to Desert Christian (Lancaster). The Conquerors also earned their first 20-win season in program history.

Monrovia 0, Palm Desert 3

Brian Serven led the way for the Aztecs to their third championship apperance in as many years. Serven pitched a stellar complete-game shutout and also contributed offensively.

Monrovia and Palm Desert took a scoreless game to the bottom of the third, when Jonathan Serven hit a chopper up the middle. The Monrovia shortstop was unable to handle the ball and Chris Drake scored for the Aztecs. Later in the inning, Brian Serven stepped up and launched a pitch to the fence in left-center field. The hit went for an RBI double scoring two Aztecs.

Brian Serven and the defense took over from there, finishing the shutout.

The Aztecs will face Temple City in the CIF Division IV championship game on Saturday. The game will be at UC Riverside at 7:30 PM.
