Strong winds expected to hit Coachella Valley

Strong gusty winds are expected in the mountains of Riverside County later Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a trough of low pressure will move inland through Tuesday, bringing strong gusty southwest to west winds to
the mountains.

A wind advisory is scheduled for the mountains from 3 this afternoon to 4 a.m. Tuesday. During the advisory period, there will be 20 to 30 mile per hour sustained winds, and gusts of up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS forecast isolated gusts up to 65 mph below the Banning Pass and in areas north and east of Interstate 10. Winds are expected to be strongest late this evening through late tonight.

“The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high profile vehicles,” according to a Weather Service advisory. “Watch for broken tree limbs and downed power lines.”
