Suspect tries to carjack driver after Indio van rollover

Indio police say a suspect tried to carjack another driver after his van rolled off the Interstate 10 near the Jackson Street off-ramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol website, the accident happened at 2:42 p.m. on the westbound side of the freeway.

An Indio police spokesperson says officers were chasing the car after it had been reported stolen from a nearby market.

The suspect crashed the car, sending it rolling off the side of the Jackson Street off-ramp from Interstate 10.

The spokesperson said he then tried to carjack another vehicle in the Target parking lot.

It’s unclear whether he was taken into custody.
