Cathedral City police search for armed robbers

An investigation was under way today into an armed robbery at a Walgreens store in Cathedral City.

A masked man with a handgun in his waistband entered the store at 33975 Date Palm Drive around 12:30 a.m. Monday, jumped over an unattended counter, took cash from a register drawer and ran from the store, said Cathedral City police Sgt. Carl Wolford.

The robber, who never drew the weapon and did not speak to store employees or customers, is described as possibly Hispanic, 5 feet 8 and 125 pounds. He was wearing a black ski-style mask, a black long-sleeve pullover shirt, khaki pants, white shoes and black gloves.

The getaway car may have been a silver sedan, Wolford said.
