Police arrest pool cleaner in Palm Springs burglary

A Cathedral City man was arrested on suspicion of burglary Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Oro Ridge in Palm Springs around 1:15 a.m. A female resident reported waking up to a noise in her bedroom and noticing her sliding glass door open. According to Palm Springs police, the woman saw a man lying on the floor next to her bed.

The man fled the scene and the woman called police to report the incident. She also later noticed her laptop computer and her iPad were missing from the bedroom.

Arriving officers found Jose Osorio-Perez of Cathedral City hiding behind a tree, about 100 yards outside the gated community, according to police. The 32-year-old was arrested and later identified by the woman. Officers later located the stolen items hidden under a bush outside the complex the next day.

According to police, Osorio-Perez works as a pool cleaner, who was hired to work on the woman’s pool. Palm Springs police are now trying to figure out whether his employment may have led to the crime.

Osorio-Perez is being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on $25,000 bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
