Man arrested, suspected in Palm Springs shooting
A Palm Springs man, wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, was arrested Wednesday evening.
Nearly 12 hours after Palm Springs police were first called to the 300 block of South Sunrise at 5:39 a.m, police located Mario Antonio Abelon in a home in the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs.
Abelon is accused of shooting a 44-year-old man outside the Andalucia Apartments. Officers found the man inside a white van with a gunshot wound in the chest, said Sgt. Mike Kovaleff. The shooting stemmed from a possible argument the two men were having, according to Kovaleff.
At one point, the SWAT team was called in to search two apartments in the complex for Abelon. Officers evacuated eight tenants to a nearby location for an hour.
The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, but is expected to recover.
