Semiautomatic handgun used in La Quinta restaurant robbery

Sheriff’s deputies today were on the hunt for a gunman who robbed a Chinese restaurant in La Quinta and his getaway driver.

China Jo’s at 78950 Highway 111 was robbed around 7:35 p.m. Thursday, said Riverside County sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Martello.

The robber entered the business, pulled a black semiautomatic handgun, demanded and received money from the clerk and ran to a waiting older-model white sedan driven by what appeared to be a white man, he said.

The gunman was described as white and in his early 20s. He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and black slacks, Martello said.
