More triple digit temperatures for Palm Springs
Triple-digit temperatures are expected in the Palm Springs area on Wednesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat warning for the area.
“High pressure centered over Utah will continue to produce hot weather over interior parts of Southern California the next few days,” according to the weather service. The agency said the hottest days in the Inland Empire will be today and Thursday.
An excessive heat warning for the Inland Empire is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. During that time, the Inland Empire’s maximum daytime temperature is expected to be 98 to 108 degrees.
A second excessive heat warning for the Inland Empire is scheduled for Thursday, also from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
An excessive heat warning issued for the Coachella Valley on Tuesday remains in effect until 10 p.m. today. According to the weather service, the maximum daytime temperatures in Coachella Valley will be 112 to 118 degrees and the minimum nighttime temperatures will be 80 to 90 degrees.
“The combinations of hot days along with very warm nights can result in very oppressive conditions, in which the body cannot recover as quickly,” according to an NWS advisory.
“Conditions like heat stroke or heat exhaustion are possible, especially if engaging in strenuous outdoor activities. This weather could be deadly for unprepared campers or hikers.”
Seniors, people in sensitive health and families with young children are strongly encouraged to keep cool. Those without air conditioning may spend the day at air conditioned “cool centers,” such as churches, recreational centers and community meeting halls. A no-burn proclamation issued by Cal Fire on Monday remained in effect this morning. The proclamation means the use of any open fire is forbidden until further notice.
A slow cooling is expected to begin Friday and continue through the
weekend, according to the weather service.
