Man shot, crashes into Cathedral City business

A driver was in critical condition Saturday morning, after a shooting, followed by a crash in Cathedral City.

Police were called to the 68800 block of Ramon Road around 4:05 A.M., where officers found a vehicle crashed into a Jiffy Lube. The driver was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, but was alive.

According to police, the man was involved in an argument at a party on the 31500 block of Avenida Del Padre before the crash. Those involved in that argument are believed to have chased the driver as he drove towards Ramon road.

The man drove southbound from Avenida Del Padre, through a deserted lot, across Ramon Road and into the business as shots were being firedat him, police Sgt. C. De Veas said.

The driver’s friends aided the man, but were uncooperative with the police investigation to identify any suspects involved in the shooting.

Police say there were also several other bullet holes into the windows of businesses next to the vehicle and west of it.

The man was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center and remains in critical condition. Cathedral City police are investigation whether the incident may be gang-related.
