Road work could cause traffic delays in Palm Desert

A road project at a busy intersection in Palm Desert will slow traffic Monday and Tuesday, officials warn.

City crews will be working those two days at Highway 111 and Plaza Way, near the Westfield Palm Desert shopping mall, on the final scheduled part of the project, according to city spokesman David Hermann.

On Monday, workers are to install traffic sensors, which could cause intermittent lane closures on Plaza Way, the exits from Westfield Palm Desert and the left-turn lane from westbound Highway 111 onto Plaza Way.

On Tuesday, the traffic signals at Highway 111 and Plaza Way will be turned off and the intersection controlled by a four-way stop to allow workers to connect new signals. Intermittent lane closures will also allow workers to re-stripe the roadway.

Each day, work will be from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.
