2 Calif. men arrested in Penn. drug bust

Police say they seized nearly $12 million in heroin and crystal methamphetamine intended for distribution in the Philadelphia area during a weekend traffic stop.

Bensalem police say suspicious activity at a truck stop prompted an officer to pull over a tractor trailer registered in California on Sunday evening. A K-9 search led to the discovery of 33 pounds of heroin and 20 pounds of crystal meth in the truck’s sleeping area.

The driver, Estaban Zalazar Velasco, 35, of Galt, Calif., and passenger, Juan Ledesma-Nolasco, 48, of Livermore, Calif., were arrested and arraigned before District Justice Joanne V. Kline. Each was being held Monday on $1 million bail in Bucks County Prison, on felony charges of criminal conspiracy and the manufacture, delivery, possession, and intent to deliver controlled substances.

Bensalem public safety director Fred Harran says “there are a lot of people who are not going to get high this week.”

Harran says the methamphetamine appears to have come from Mexico.
