Man who fell from La Quinta construction crane Identified

La Quinta Police released the name Friday of a man found badly injured at a local construction site Wednesday evening.

Joseph Vaccaro, 51, fell approximately 50 feet from a construction crane parked next to La Quinta high school. Firefighters were called to Adams Street and Black Hawk Way to rescue him.

Vaccaro is believed to be homeless and remains in serious condition still unable to speak with officers about this incident.

Police say they have not been able to locate any of his family members. The Riverside County Sheriffs Department says records indicate Vaccaro may have ties to El Centro and portions of New Mexico, but the records are several years old.

Fences and gates were already in place at the construction site blocking its entrances.

Now city leaders say they’re now taking extra precautions to better secure the site as the start of the school year approaches.

Classes at La Quinta high school start in less than two weeks.

Anyone with any information about this incident or information on how to contact Vaccaro’s family, is urged to call the Thermal Sheriff’s Station at (760) 863-8990.
