Free online college aims to change education

Albert Einstein once said “The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.”

On that premise emerges WEU, World Education University.

“By having us go out there and offer free high quality education, we’re able to actually bring people that never thought they’d be able to get an education, to get an education,” WEU Founder and CEO Curtis Pickering said. “Right now, in America, we have over one trillion dollars in student debt. It’s a crisis. It’s the next bubble.”

An effort to keep socio-economic backgrounds from deciding who can learn and who can’t, WEU knows no boundaries. It teaches “Pre-K to grey”.

You can start your degree, or finish that one last semester you’ve been meaning to get around to.

Not only does WEU give you the freedom to get your education wherever you want, from the comfort of your own home to your favorite coffee shop, you can also learn at your own pace — going as fast or as slow as you’d like.

This degree-granting global online university makes money from advertisement, the same way Google and probably most of your favorite sites drive in revenue as well.

Something else you’re familiar with, the cofounder and COO of the game-changing web wonder, a face familiar to the desert – Scott Hines, the Rancho Mirage Mayor.

“The idea of WEU really comes from Curtis and I’s personal backgrounds. We both grew up in low income disadvantaged homes and we’re both the products of free education,” Hines said.

While WEU will teach to the furthest corners of the world, as it takes off, it doesn’t forget where it started — and where it’ll stay.

“We plan to stay here. We’ve had a lot of pressure to go places like the Silicon Valley, because we basically are a tech company, but we want to have our headquarters here and remain here,” Pickering said.

“There is definitely a need to diversify the industry base here, and we’re excited to be what should be a very large job creator in the area,” Hines said.

While hundreds of top-notch professors from around the world vie to teach the thousands of students already signing up, WEU keeps driving home its mission.

“It’s imperative that the United States continue to be an education leader. If we don’t do that, we will lose the creativity that makes us unique,” Pickering said.

While there may be no such thing as a free lunch, with WEU, there really is free education. That’s a concept sure to have made Einstein exceedingly proud.
