A registered sex offender accused of molesting teen
A registered sex offender accused of molesting an unconscious teenager is facing felony charges.
David Joseph Schneider was charged Monday with oral copulation of an unconscious victim, two counts of furnishing a minor under 14 with marijuana, and annoying a child, all felonies. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment Monday.
Schneider was arrested Thursday in the 82-300 block of Astaire Circle in Indio on suspicion of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor after police started investigating information they received from the Sheriff’s Department, according to Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron. Schneider’s last known address on Astaire was listed in the state sex offender registry.
Schneider committed lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, according to the registry, but no date was listed. He was convicted in 2003 of furnishing a minor under 14 with marijuana and in 2001 of failing to register as a sex offender, according to Riverside County court records. The charges filed Monday were for alleged offenses committed on Aug. 12, and the alleged molestation victim was under 18, according to the criminal complaint.
At Monday’s arraignment, Riverside County Superior Court Judge William S. Lebov set bail at $55,000 and ordered him back on Aug. 29 for a felony settlement conference, according to court records.
