Palm Springs Film Society to screen series on the history of movies

The Palm Springs International Film Society and the Palm Springs Art Museum will screen a 15-hour series on the history of the movies starting in September, a film society spokeswoman said.
Award-winning filmmaker Mark Cousins’ “The Story of Film: An Odyssey” will be shown over eight weeks in the museum’s third-floor lecture hall, starting on Sept. 9. Discussions also will take place.
The series surveys the “greatest movies ever made and tells the story of international cinema through the history of cinematic innovation,” Palm Springs International Film Society spokesman David Lee said.
“The Story of Film” will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sundays and one Saturday in two one-hour installments.
Series passes are $75, or, for film society and museum members, $50. Single tickets will be sold at the Palm Springs Art Museum box office on the day of each screening for $15, or $10 for film society and museum members.
