East Palm Canyon reopens through Cathedral City
East Palm Canyon Drive in Cathedral City reopened to traffic early Friday morning at 6 am.
Cathedral City Public Works Crews were working overnight to clean up mud and debris following flooding Thursday afternoon along East Palm Canyon Drive between Golf Club Drive And Cathedral Canyon Drive.
In a printed statement Thursday, Cathedral City Communications Director Allen Howe said, two city street sweepers would begin sweeping at 8:30 pm that night.
Howe also said the flooding was caused by a break at the nearby Eagle Canyon Dam Levee. But now Mayor Kathy DeRosa informs us that there is no dam levee in Eagle Canyon from stopping water coming down the mountainside. The information released from Howe was incorrect. She also states that since the flood in 2008 they have been working with the County, City of Palm Springs, and tribal members to get a dam built.
Several businesses were flooded near Perez Road, along with many mobile homes at the Tram View Mobile Home Park.
There was also damage at Demuth Park in Palm Springs. Several lightning strikes were reported there. Araby Road at the wash was also shut down for a short time, but was later reopened to vehicle traffic.
