Driver hits power pole closes roadway for hours

The Varner Road stretch between Date Palm and Bob Hope was shut down for several hours Monday after a car crashed into a power pole.

California Highway Patrol says at approx 5:45 am — the driver, of a 4-door Hundai Alantra, traveling eastbound on Varner Road lost control for unknown reasons and crashed into a power pole.

The car spun to its side and rolled over at least once says CHP. Two men were in the vehicle. The driver suffered major injuries, the condition of the passenger is unknown. Both were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center.

Varner was closed between Date Palm Drive and Bob Hope Drive for hours while Southern California Edison repaired the damaged pole.
