Many people labor on Labor Day

Federal holiday or not, some people still have to get up and go to work on Labor Day.

“Very quiet and boring, but we’re just getting cleaning done,” Jensen’s employee Julie Baez said.

Working on Labor Day is hard for Julie Baez, whose entire family is doing exactly the opposite.

“Kind of sad. My kids are off of school, my husband is at home. I had to come to work. I left everybody at home asleep,” Baez said.

Baez knows that some people have to work this holiday to keep the day moving.

“Grocery stores. Like Walmart and Home Depot. This is the time that most people try to get their errands done since it’s their day off. They enjoyed their weekend, now it’s last minute stuff,” Baez said.

She is even grateful for some retailers open this evening, on this day of consumer-heaven.

“I’m going to go home, take a shower, get ready, and go shopping,” Baez said.

One thing and one thing only gets Baez through the day.

“That I was getting out at 1:00. At least I’m not coming in at 12:30, getting out at nine,” she said.
