2 injured in rush hour crash on Interstate Ten

Traffic came to a crawl on Interstate Ten just West of the Highway 62 interchange late Wednesday afternoon. At 3:45pm CHP says a driver of a white van entered I-10 from Highway 62 going at a high rate of speed and made an unsafe lane change.

The driver then hit an over-sized big rig, pulling a trailer, causing the van to spin around and then hit a white Chevy pickup truck. The driver of the van was transported to the hospital with major injuries, a dog riding in the van was ejected and died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy pickup truck was also transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Several lanes were closed for over an hour as crews worked to clear the wreckage from the road. Traffic was backed up for about 6 miles at one point.
