Beaumont School Warns of Attempted Abduction

A student at Mountain View Middle School fought off a man who apparently tried to kidnap her while walking home from school last Friday.

The man tried to grab the student by the arm, but she kicked him and managed to get away.

It happened near 12th Street and Beaumont Avenue.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 18-25, who weighs about 185 pounds.

The Beaumont Police Department is investigating the incident, and administrators and security personnel within the Beaumont Unified School District have been notified. School district officials say they will “continue to be vigilant in regard to all persons exhibiting suspicious behavior.”

A letter sent home with students this week offers some safety tips for students.

Always be aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone.
Walk in groups of two or more. Never get into a vehicle with a stranger, and kick, bite, fight, shout, run and tell Do not walk alone in the dark
Do not go to “lonely” places, like deserted buildings, empty parking lots, or places where few people are around Remain on school grounds during school hours Immediately tell responsible adults about any suspicious activities, and give as many details as possible

Beaumont Police say a man also approached a boy at Mountain View Middle School in August 2011. He told the boy he was there to pick him up for his mother. The child’s mother was right around the corner, but the suspect was gone when she arrived. That man was described as 6 feet tall, and 180 pounds.
