UCR Palm Desert to conclude season of free summer movie screenings

UCR Palm Desert will conclude its “Lit Flicks” free summer movie series tonight with the 1958 film “Cat On a Hot Tin Roof.”
The films featured in the series are based on works of literature and screened at the campus auditorium. There will be a 15-minute discussion by film and literary experts before tonight’s showing and a discussion afterward about the adaptation, what worked, what didn’t and what the director left out, campus spokeswoman Amanda Bogorad said.
“Cat On a Hot Tin Roof” stars Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman and is based on Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the relationships between an alcoholic, his wife and his ailing father. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards but won none in a year when the best film Oscar went to “Gigi.”
“Lit Flicks” is sponsored by UCR Palm Desert’s low-residency master of fine arts in creative writing program.
Reservations are recommended at http://palmdesert.ucr.edu/programs/events.html or by calling (760) 834-0800.
