Man shot in Mecca grape vineyard taken to hospital

A man was shot Wednesday afternoon in a Mecca grape vineyard but that is not where he ended up.

According to detectives on scene, a man was reported shot outside the old fire station on 4th Street in Mecca around 3:25 p.m. The man told deputies that the shooting occurred in the vineyard on Grant Avenue near 66th Avenue a few blocks away.

The man reportedly drove himself to the firehouse. Emergency crews responded minutes later and he was transported to an area hospital being treated for non-life threatening wounds, according to a deputy on scene.

Deputies and investigators continue to comb through clues left behind at the vineyard site. No word on a motive or suspects at this time.
