New Palm Springs bridge set to open

A new bridge was set to be dedicated and opened Thursday in Palm Springs.

The Richard M. Milanovich Memorial bridge is located at Belardo road and Sunny Dunes drive.

In a statement from the city, a spokeswoman said the Milanovich bridge had been in the works for more than 20 years and will connect the heart of Palm springs to the Agua Caliente tribe’s Tahquitz Canyon trails.

A public ceremony was scheduled for 9 a.m. in honor of Milanovich, a late tribal chairman.

Members of the Milanovich family, tribal chairman Jeff Grubbe and Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet were expected to share memories of the late Chairman, who died earlier this year.

Pougnet said the bridge will be one of the late chairman’s important legacies to his community.

The project cost three million dollars, money that came from a public lands highway fund.
