New DMV Office Opens to Public

“It’s very roomy and I got taken care of right away.” Says Rhonda Taylor of Indio. “Quick. Not too many people.”

Not things you usually hear from people walking out of the DMV.

A new DMV location is now open in Palm Desert and people say that it’s time.

Stan Thomas of Palm Desert agrees.

“We needed another one. The one in Indio is just too busy.”

“I think it’s great to have it much more convenient and less congestion. The Indio one was always a problem.”

Before these doors opened Monday morning drivers would need to go to either end of the Valley… Indio or Palm Springs.

The new 11,000 square foot building is right off the I-10 at Cook Street, on Technology Drive.

People we spoke to are also happy to hear that the developer, a Riverside based company made the building eco-friendly.

DMV employee leroy Ramirez agrees.

“I think the state is doing their part in that respect and I’m glad to see that not only they spent the money for this facility but that they’re doing it green.”

Keeping the customer in mind, online DMV services are up 20 percent this year. You can even use your smart phone to schedule an appointment or use the virtual phone system.

“A virtual phone system now where if you call, and you don’t want to wait in line, you can leave your name and phone number and the DMV will call you back.”

Ramierez expects to see 2300 people a day here at the Palm Desert office. He hopes they will leave with a better experience than the last.

“I know times are tough but it’s what citizens need. I think services like this that are convenient.”
