Come Fly with Me: Non-Stop from Palm Springs to New York

If you’re looking to transform your view from the desert landscape, to the New York skyline, it just got a whole lot easier. Virgin America is expanding its service to Palm Springs, with new non-stop flight from The Big Apple. Steve Lumbard is visiting from Seattle and says, “Anytime you can have people come in across the country to visit Palm Springs, it’s good!”

Brian Foster of Santa Cruz says, “If I was going to New York, I would certainly take it.”

Palm Springs City Manager, David Ready says, “Virgin has really widened their market scope here and we’re very appreciative.”

Tuesday morning Virgin America released this statement:”Since entering these Palm Springs markets, we’ve seen strong demand for our unique flight service. We’re pleased to be expanding in the market and offering a new nonstop option for travelers coming from New York, to the desert this winter.” John MacLeod, Senior Vice President of Planning and Sales at Virgin America.

This new flight expands Virgin America’s seasonal nonstop flights from San Francisco International to Palm Springs and connecting flights from JFK to PSP, starting October 18th. Then, just in time for Christmas, the direct flights will take off starting December 22nd. You can book to and return flights on Saturdays only. The departure from Palm Springs is at 3 in the afternoon and the return flight from New York is at 10:55, in the morning. The tourism industry couldn’t be happier with the new schedule. Director of Tourism, Mary Jo Ginther says, “The opportunity to talk to meeting planners in the New York corridor of the U.S. Where we did not have a direct flight , they call it lift and you need lift for your attendees to get in and out of your city easily, so this will be a great advantage to sell to the North East corridor.”

Mayor Steve Pougnet couldn’t agree more. He tells us, “We are very excited to see the expansion of Virgin with a direct flight. It’s great for our market with a direct flight from JKF. It will certainly bring tourists from the east coast that wont want to leave our beautiful destination.”

Ready says “With our new convention center, our new hotels and our downtown mall redevelopment, this town is really moving to where it needs to be and the whole valley is becoming a premiere destination.”
