Another mosquito sample positive for West Nile Virus

Another mosquito sample has tested positive for the West Nile virus in Rancho Mirage.

That brings this year’s total positive mosquito samples in the valley to 110, the highest number of samples since the virus arrived in 2003.

Last week Riverside County health officials confirmed the valley’s first 2 human cases of West Nile for the year. One in Mecca. One in Rancho Mirage.

Vector control increased efforts to keep the mosquito population under control in Mecca following heavy rains.
